Spotted on A9

Postby PeterDavisX300 » Fri Oct 14, 2016 11:58 am

Whilst travelling down the A9 this past Wednesday, just South of Pitlochry on the dual-carriageway, around 2.30pm. I spotted an X300 sitting in a layby going South with the full-sized spare out on the verge. The near side rear had flattened, and the guy wasn't sure how to change it. He said the car used to be his sons, but his now, and he's no mechanic. Naturally I had stopped in my Jaguar, and offered to do the change myself but he had already called the RAC and they were only 20 mins away. What was very interesting, it was an XJR with a manual gearbox in BRG. It had a distinctive 'plate, four numbers then suffixed with XJR. It seemed to be full of personal-items as if the guy was moving, it was in 'tatty' condition body-wise and looked well-used. Was an older-chap, and he said he really liked the car especially the power. I pointed to becoming a member of JEC, he didn't seem very interested because he said his son owned a garage and was a mechanic. Nice fella right enough.

That was good of you to stop. How many people would do that these days?
There are still quite a few of these manual XJR6 around still. 2 that have been for sale online recently.
Your chap there.
A blue one turned up on my drive a few weeks ago to pick up some parts.
Also saw a red one somewhere in Berkshire owned by a chap I bought a spare wheel off.
Plus another black one I discussed with another member on here.
They are out there!

Naki,
If you do meet owners of manual XJR6 cars, please do encourage them to get in touch with the club, or me directly. Even if they don't want to join the club, I would still like to update my register.

Peter,
Thanks for drawing this car to our attention. I don't have a car on my database with a registration like the one you describe, but it may be on my register with a different registration number.
