front passenger lock not working , so i replaced it

Postby Brakebuster » Sat Aug 13, 2016 5:20 pm

my central locking hasn't worked properly since buying the car, the PO actually gave me a replacement locking module, but i suspected something else was happening

the front passenger door central locking didn't work at all , but i could lock it from the outside with the key , but couldn't unlock , or open the door with the handle , only the inside pull worked

taking the door apart i discovered the central locking motor had been ' unlinked ' from the lock , this central locking motor wouldn't operate either

but pulling up and down on the solenoid top resulted in the rest of the car locking and unlocking, so at least the internal microswitch was working, i connected everything up and tried operating the locks, and the car went into 50 fits,
i think the door lock position microswitches were in conflict with the lock not working in line with the rest of the car

so FUBAR LOCKING SOLENOID

I purchased a new lock from our own Rob , and as its a 94 car i needed one with the right connector ,

the lock turned up today , along with a few other parts,( thanks Rob  ) so i decided to have a bash , its a bit tight in there but releasing the links, the lock bolts and the window guide bolts gave me enough wiggle room to remove just the locking motor and replace with the new one ( i had tested it on the end of the wiring before starting this procedure )

once all back together, i gave everything a good spray with ' white lithium grease ' ,

et voila

she works, and even the outside handle now opens the door, so no more leaning over to let passengers in , very embarrassing, lol
