X300 Headlamp Resilvering

I amb trying to improve the headlamp illumination from a 97 XJ

Having removed the lens units from the car for cleaning I noticed that the silvering is in a poor condition and especially on the outer lamps. Rusting is evident on the metal lamp shield which is inside the lamp fitting . I note that the lens appears to be glued to the reflector
I am trying to identify possible replacement (Valeo or valco 043709) itis believed that the parts are also JML12110/12414 (£140+). While used items are shown on ebay i am assuming that as "used" they will also be suffering with poor silvering.. Asearch on google does not give me any way ahead as to how i can refurbish / resilver as i read varying reviews

A. Has anyone tried to unglue / detach the lens from the reflector , respray the re silver the reflector and then reglue and attach the glass lens – If so what experience / materials

B. On the back of lamp fitting where the bulb is inserted, there appears to be a tab which enables the bulb holder to be rotated by about 45 deg within the fitting. ?? Whats this for and should it be in a set position

I tried to attach a picture with no success - no sure why ??
