I spotted this on ebay a couple of weeks ago, as soon as the ad came live i saw it, as i read description i had a feeling it was a very early car, i clicked buy it now to find someone had beat me to it.....gutted !!
I had a feeling it was a very early car as soon as i spotted the reg number, be interesting to know where it ranks in oldest surviving cars
I just hope whoever bought it knows what it is and hasn't bought it to break for its running gear.
Chassis number SAJJPALF7BJ720223
Even registered as a daimler, a mistake at the factory i guess, common with factory reg stuff.
Looks like its survived pretty well so far, i hope it lives on

Interesting
VIN is a manual XJR vin for sure
M48 FVC is a Coventry registration, I had M64FVC on mine and M46 FVC still survives
first 300 vin is 720001, a 1993 build car, as all prototypes were, first production car was 720120. I know 006, 088, and 097 all survive, all are XJR's so there will be others as well
BUT and this is the BUT, some years ago along with Jaguar Heritage, I did some fairly exhaustive work on a register of manual XJR's, I thought, we thought, I had a complete list, this one is NOT on that list, odd, further investigation needed I feel

edit, ok FOUND it, manufacture date 4th July 1994, despatched September 1994, hence the M reg, Jaguar Cars first owner, black with black cloth trim, last known in 2008 as untaxed, we hold no other details on this one, so a survivor found, so some one has rescued it at least, hope they know what they have bought

I hounded the seller to put me in touch so i could try and safeguard its future, to no avail, i really hope its not for breaking, i guess the fact it had a cherished on for a long time made it drop off your radar.

nope not me, innocent this time, never knew the car was for sale!!
I suspect neither did most people. I called the seller. He told me someone hit the buy it now, literally within 5 minutes of it going online! Now that's a quick sale!

someone turned up with a bucket of cash then?
or the dealer decided it wasn't going high enough for him?
so who stuck a bid in?

This car was advertised on carandclassic, too -
<
http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C771437>,
with an asking price of £7,000. It may have sold via that site, rather than ebay (lower fees!).
A dramatic colour.

He still has it (as of earlier this week). I spoke to him about this and something else.
He ended the listing early, as he didn't think the bids were high enough!
Though he admitted he bought it to break for the engine & box!
So what is its "true value"? No one seems to know?
