Looking to upgrade the headlight bulbs on my Soveriegn, has anybody fitted Osram nightbreaker to their car. Althought the reports on their website so how good they are many customers complain of short bulb life, any advise would be mosy welcome.

I have just ordered some H1 lamps for my dip beams, not sure which type you need?
As I understand it the original nightbreakers were not great on longevity and were replaced by the "plus" version... now these have been superseded by the "unlimited" version which, apparently, seem to be a huge improvement on the originals as far as longevity is concerned.
I will be reporting back on the nightbreakers both for vision/light output and especially if they don't last the distance ! However, at £11.59 a pair, delivered, I won't be too upset if they give up!
Mike K has recommended Halfords own version too, see the thread on the XK8 forum re headlights and, as has been pointed out before, the lamps life can be shortened by supply voltage both in under and over supply which sometimes points to alternator problems.

Re: head light bulbs
Simon,
I have not used the Osram Nightbreakers, but I have fitted the Philips Xtreme bulbs on my x350, XJS and Mini. They now have an additional 130% light output and have been a huge improvement on all the cars. Available in H1, H4 & H7, there seems to be quite a variety in price, so worth looking around all the usual online suppliers & ebay.
Good luck
Paul

Thanks Paul
Re: head light bulbs
I have fitted Philips Xtreme and Osram Nightbrakers to a couple of cars. They both excellent - my XJ40 Sovereign particularly so. The headlights are really powerful. They've been on a good couple of years now and haven't failed on either car.

Re: head light bulbs
Just been out with the nightbreakers for the first time, definite improvement on the standard bulbs
but once you have experienced HID there really is no substitute !
Improved definition at the edges of the beams now plus look very white.... need some led sidelight bulbs now to match!
