Hello, I am changing forums.

Postby Doherto » Wed Feb 24, 2021 1:26 pm

Just introducing myself as a new member to this forum. I have been a member of the Mk2 forum for a few years and that was a great source of help and support during my compete rebuild of my Mk2. I finished my full nut and bolt restoration between lockdowns last year but, having only completed 800 miles of the 2000 mile run in period for the completely rebuilt engine, I suffered another lower back disc herniation requiring surgery which has dictated that I am no longer 'allowed' to crawl under over and into cars in the future. I therefore have had to put my Mk2 up for sale and have created a small web site to detail the level of information needed for potential buyers. The web site, for anyone interested, can be found at https://retiredearly9.wixsite.com/jaguar-mk2 However, as I am a jag fan, I have also bought an Ex japan import Automatic XJ40 in almost concourse condition having 12,000 miles on the clock which will be serviced and maintained by my local Jaguar classic professionals. Hopefully I will be able to learn and contribute to this forum, in the same way I did in the Mk2 area, once I have sold my Mk2 and can release my XJ40 from storage. Tony D in Manchester

I'm back now having sold my Mk2 :D :D :D Thank you for your comments, xj_register, Naki and Andy. I have now uncovered her from hibernation starting on the button, unbelievable after 5 months, and she is now having a good full service before starting a new life. However, with a Japanese import I need to change the radio which has been changed for an after market product which will not work in the UK. Therefore I am trying to source a standard radio cassette player model DBC 6487 and having some significant difficulty finding one. If anyone can point me in the direction of a potential source I would very much appreciate it. Fingers crossed. Tony D

We spoke on the last phone about the radio already I think Tony. Indeed it’s not easy to find. One will come up eventually, if you keep looking around.

Hi Naki, yes that was me you spoke to. Hopefully one will turn up. I have saved searches on Ebay with notification so if anyone lists AJ9100R or DBC 6487 I will get an email immediately, so fingers crossed. Tony

It’s always worth trying Simplyperformance as I was able to get one a few years ago.

Cafcpete, thank you for your suggestion. They have my request and details and are looking but have not heard back yet. Also requested a couple of suppliers from the monthly mag but no responses. No news is good news they say but in this case I doubt it. I'll keep trying Thanks again. Tony

Still no replies to the enquiries I sent out but thankfully Naki has come up with a solution. He has offered a NOS DBC3236 which I am assured will interface with my car. Just a little spaghetti wiring to sort out when it arrives and as I do not have any original plugs etc etc it's a wiring diagram, use of the grey matter and a soldering gun and shrink wrap. Happy days.

Ok we are almost free of this Covid and I have had my first run out last weekend. 200 miles up to the lake district and back and she ran like a dream with the radio and blue tooth cassette working perfectly. Anyhow, the first club outing with the Manchester Region of JEC is next weekend but I already know that my 40 is only one of two in the club. Therefore my reason for the post is to ask if there are any other JEC Members, or non members, who own an XJ40 locally. I know a lot about Mk2's but would like to meet with XJ40 owners to 'pick their brains' so to speak. I live in the M29 Postcode area of Manchester which is 10 miles west of the city centre. Tony

Hi Tony,

I live just the other side of Chester (about 50 miles from M29 area). I have had a number of xj40's and x300's (not anymore) so you are most welcome to get in touch and pick my brains. Regards, Steve.

Steve, thank you for your prompt reply. I am hoping to visit a manufacturer in Chester soon so may give you a shout as and when it is arranged.
