Still haven't fitted the dump valve but have found out where it goes which took a while.

had a theory. I lifted the brake pedal hard with my foot whilst driving along and seem to have got it working. brake pedal switch adjustment (when my current back and hip pain ease's off a bit)

brake pedal micro switch is the problem. lift the pedal with my foot and cruise control works every time. adjustment needed

Fitted new dump valve, no change.
Replaced brake switch, no change.

Where next?

I'll tell you what, I'll think of something.
Replaced control unit.
No change.
Running out of things to change now.
Stupid intercooler means can't access the actuator and bellows.

did you try lifting the brake pedal ? with engine off, get your head down near the pedal box depress and lift the brake pedal and you should hear it 'click'. if you hear it 'click' when lifted up then micro switch is ok. try it out on the road, if it doesn't work lift the brake pedal with your foot and try it again

Already changed the brake pedal switch, no difference.
Tried lifting the pedal whilst driving, no difference.
So far changed the above, dump valve, and module.
Everything else appears to be buried below the intercooler so that is going to have to wait until I get the fans sorted out.
Or I might just scrap it, don't need this nonsense at the moment.
