absolutely spot on PimExactly my thoughts: as written before the kit's contents are an exact match to what the X300 (which one could consider a post-1994 MY per se) toolkit features....from a LATE XJS, post 1994 MY...
BTW, does look good in your '40, though!

Re: Tool kit identification
This is shown on JCP as an earlier XJ40 toolkit (up to VIN 667828)

And this as a later:

Which means I now need to look for another to replace the second one I bought for my car which is VIN 635215 is for a later car. The first one was sold to me in error (it was an early XJ-S one (to VIN170153) so I now have a spare:

Not the one between VIN 170154 and 179736

Which at first glance looks the same as the later XJ40 and facelift XJS, but which on closer inspection lacks the bulb to the right of the tyre pressure gauge:

The last XJS one looks the same as the later XJ40 one.
None of this helps identify the one that it the subject of this post of course, but I never knew Jag toolkits could be so interesting on a wet Friday afternoon! Which begs another question, where are the early XJ40 jack, handle and wheelbrace meant to live? JCP does not list a jack bag like it does for the XJS.

Not the mystery item but here is a DS420 toolkit:

Wonder how useful the one spare spark plug would be should one's limo or hearse develop a misfire? Likewise item 14 which is a distributor screwdriver.

Re: Tool kit identification
Got it! Now I'm just missing a wheelbrace, is this the folding one that clips onto the jack? If so should the jack have a bracket? If so I have the wrong jack!bolted and clipped to a bracket on the back board and fuel tank, no bag
