Clocked Car

Postby malclamour » Thu Dec 06, 2012 5:54 pm

Bought an X300 1996 3.2.......Did the VOSA check after purchase, and found !00,000 miles had been removed between MOT's.....The seller was not aware, and immediately refunded my money.Checked with AA legal department and they advised that under 1967 representation of goods Act that the person selling the vehicle is liable (whether they were aware or not). Has any member had this experience ?.....

you will probably find this was a case of a swapped out dash pack due to failure of the old one in the cars life, and the documentation of the swap lost in the sands of time

clocking used to be a huge problem years ago, but most dash packs now are tamper proof

I have swapped loads of 40 and 300 dash pods for owners and cars with failed dash packs, early XJ40 were prone to failure even at very low mileages, if the car has been one of mine, it was always documented when the car went to a new owner, but who can say what subsequent owners will do with the paperwork!!, multi owners cars come here usually with no records no paperwork and one key!!, one of my XJR's had had 13 previous owners, I bet all of those were not "careful owners"
