insurance advice

Postby barold » Tue Nov 13, 2012 11:02 pm

I'd be grateful for some advice here. I just purchased my 1997 X300 XJ exec. 3 weeks ago and having fallen in love with the big Jaggy thing decided that what I really wanted was a Sport.

So, I have now bought a rather nice 96 Sport with 20,000 miles less which i'm due to pick up on Sat. 18th. nov.

Now, what's my best way forward here? I got full comp from Saga for £219.00 for the Exec. now I need the same for the Sport, but I need to keep insurance on the exec. until i can sell it, perhaps 3 weeks.

Do I have to run 2 x full insurances then cancel one or can I organise a shorter term on my original policy/ Anyone have experience of Saga's attitudes to similar circumstances?

Thanks

barold,

not sure if this helps, but if the old car is parked offroad why don't you just swap the policy to the new car and then use one of the temp cover companies to insure the original car if and when you need to drive it. That would seem to be the most cost effective way. Temp cover is readily available from a number of companies and is very cheap if you just need insurance for a day or two.

I know you're supposed to have continuous insurance on a taxed vehicle but if you're selling the car in the next few weeks, that hardly seems an issue.....

Just a suggestion.....

Paul, thanks for the suggestion. Problem is the car will be parked on road, and I would need to have cover for possibly 21 days or so in order to sell it and would need continuous insurance if I need to give someone a test drive. Considering that Saga are only charging me £230 for a years comp. then £20 would be a reasonable figure for 21 days cover. Wouldn't it ?.......... No, of course we're talking insurance here so it won't work that way.

Anyway, I'll ask them and see what they come up with.

Sorted! Thanks. Saga offered me a good deal on transfering existing policy to new buy and providing temp cover for £ 20.00 per week. So, anyone up for a cheap old X300?
