Update on production figures

Postby ChrisDixon » Wed Mar 11, 2009 11:41 pm

Hi All

I'm now able to access the forums having fixed a problem (with my broadband router) that for some reason denied me access to only the JEC site!). Here is some information I got from the factory via JDHT:

"Based on the assumption that the XJR cars with manual gearbox would have a VIN prefix of either SAJ-JPALF7BJ for a right-hand drive car, and SAJ-JPALF8BJ for a left-hand drive car, the following are the figures by model year for right- and left-hand drive XJR cars with manual gearbox:

1995 model year, RHD 64, LHD 103, total 167
1996 model year, RHD 25, LHD 51, total 76
1997 model year, RHD 13, LHD 12, total 25

Which gives a total of 268 cars altogether.

However our contact has warned us that this number may only represent cars that are still "live" on Jaguar's database, and may not include cars which have been removed from the system for instance if they are known to have been lost e.g. through accidents."

What is interesting is that more LHD manuals appear to have been made than RHDs. Where did they all go? Noting the caveat above I'd like to see an extract from the production database but unless someone has a good contact in Jag's IT department it would involve looking through 90,000+ VIN numbers on JDHT's paper records!

Regards

Chris

having just bought another manual XJR6, sadly i don't see this car being at Thoresby which is a shame because it is vin 720405, a known car to us, but having had back today my JDHT trace I find the following, being 720405 it would follow that it is the 405th car built if we assume vins started at 72000, but production vins started at 720120, wihch would make this the 285th 300 built, where as in fact it had been comfirmed this car is the 28th car built, being sent down the line on 13 July 1994, and registered M64 FVC to Jaguar Cars Promotion Dept on 13 August 1994. Sadly this reg has gone and DVLA have no record of it on this car, but they also have no record of the first keeper, Jaguar Cars, so i am awaiting comfirmation from JDHT in my claim to have M64 FVC reunited with the car

This now forms a nice bookend with my April 1997 manual R vin 806511, which has also been confirmed as the latest manual R up to now

I have an invite to trawl the JDHT records at some point, so I intend to take Anders up on this one to sse what I can find

If Bleasie can do it for XJS cabs, we can do it for XJR6 manuals, watch this space

Rob, it sounds like the VIN sequence runs across models, so if say one X300 in ten were an XJR that would explain things. I have also been "invited" by Anders but I still maintain that it would be far easier to query the Jaguar Cars database than to trawl through paper records. I wonder if it is worth talking to him again to see if we could find someone at the factory to liaise with to make the task easier. After all, that is how I got the manual "production" figures. Regards, Chris.

well folks after much sterling work by myself and Chris Dixon, but in particular Andy Stodart, at JDHT with Anders we now have the FINAL figure for X300 manual XJR's 103 RHD cars, and 165 LHD, total 268 FACT!!!

what we did find was some real oddballs, a 1993 car vin 720006, a UK spec car shipped out to Oz, a white Gernam spec car, a couple of Topaz ones, and one ordered by a church minister!! we know of 22 of the UK cars, but there are at least another 27 still taxed/sorned on DVLA database on the reg number Jaguar still have on file, so there have to be more taking into account registration changes, if you have one of these rare machines get in touch with us please to check if we have your car on our "known "list

we reckon about 5% of 40's were manual cars, so take circa 209K cars this gives about 10K manual cars

it is an easy enough thing to do, by inputting a 7 or 8 identifier from the vin into one of the many sysyems at jaguar, but the list of final vins will be HUGE!!, I'm not going to ask then the question, but it can be done

Hello, i'm a new member of JEC.
I tried to contact XJR41 on his website but it seems not working.
I have a manual LHD XJR from 1992.
You can see pictures on my website.
I think this car is one of the two special cars someone speak about on the xj40.com forum.

Please, where do i have to do the presentations ? i'm new here, sorry !

And sorry for my French english...

Yes, the XJR website is working. But i tried to contact by mail and no answer.
The same for XJ40.com, the website is working, but impossible to complete the registration procedure. I can't login, they never validate my login/password...

Well... Now i received my Membership to JEC i will be able to communicate here with other XJR owners !

Best regards.

Hello,

I have a question about the 1992 XJR TWR manual models...

I've been heard that the JaguarSport specific spare parts are no longer available in France... So, i wonder what happens if we needs these parts ? Perhaps my question is crazy... i'm a Newbie... but it's a big problem here in France... Do you think i could find spare parts in UK ?
If these parts are not available in UK, what happens ? We put XJ40 normal parts ? But the vehicule will not be the same... Sorry for "french english".

Best regards.

Jaguar sold all the Jaguar Sport spares to Black Country Jaguar I believe some years ago here is the link

http://www.blackcountryjaguar.com/

however a lot of parts are now obsolete, so you may well have to source used Jaguar Sport parts (difficult) or use whatever 40 parts you can find new OR used as many of these are also now obsolete
