A post I have just put on to my Register Page - www.facebook.com/xj40register

CALLING ALL XJ40/81 OWNERS – ESPECIALLY THE EUROPEANS!!!! I need your thoughts on something!

It has been discussed by a small number of us over here in the UK about doing a Euro trip. A lot of Register supporters are based outside of the UK, and as I’ve said on a lot of posts, things a very focused on the UK a lot of the time. There are also some very very dedicated owners such as Florian and Pim who try hard to come to the UK for various events, and again, that’s not very fair on them.

I had thoughts of having something in 2020, but 2021 is 35 years of XJ40 so thought of doing something bigger, different, and designed to include more people from Europe. It’s still in the very early stages, but I was thinking of going from the UK, to the south of France (try and entice some Spanish members to come up) and touring up North towards Germany, which would aim to include as many people along the way as possible (Swiss, German, Belgian, French – well everyone). It would be very mileage intensive for the UK attendees, but myself and couple of others would be up for it if there was enough interest.

So, the question is, is there an appetite for this? Are there any UK members who would be up for a drive to remember, and if I can arrange an inclusive route, would European owners be interested?

To other people in other parts in the world, don’t worry, you’ve not been forgotten, there has even been discussions about American, Canadian and trips to visit other places such as those based on XJ40 development testing, but I can only look at one thing at a time, and time and costs dictate one plan at a time too, this Euro trip would be a big planning endeavour.

From what I have been discussing with a few people, I would be aiming to arrange something which would last about a week, incorporating some good driving roads, plenty photo ops, nothing too intensive that would leave people physically and mentally drained and would give time for lots of socialising. I would need to come up with an itinerary plan, and would be looking at hotels which are clean and comfy, but not costly, costs would be kept as low as possible due to the fuel cost requirements, but of course would ensure that food and drink wouldn’t be an issue.

It’s all still in the very early stages, so the question is, what do you think? Would anyone be up for this in 2021?
