Due to various people asking, I have planned another visit to the Morgan Car Factory on Friday 26th May 2017 - this will commence at 11am. The cost for the tour is £20 per person, payable on the day.
I have also planned to visit Coventry Transport Museum on Saturday 27th May 2017 - commencing at 10am. We will be parking in Millenium Place, with kind permission of the museum.
I have looked into offering overnight accommodation near Coventry on this Friday, which makes sense if ,like myself, you have travelled a fair way.
Therefore, I have managed to get some good rates (B & B) at The Chace Hotel, London Road, Coventry. CV3 4EQ. This is about 3 miles from the Transport Museum.
Double Room (2 persons) is £63 per room per night.
Single Room is £58 per room per night.
Family Rooms are also available - there are 2 types of family rooms.
Their triple rooms (1 double and 1 single bed)are the same price as their doubles, + £5 for a child’s breakfast (under 12). Or our family rooms (1 double, 1 single and 1 sofa bed) are £10 extra + £5 for a child’s breakfast (under 12).
You will have to contact the hotel direct on 02476 303398 and mention my name and booking ref: COVE36659/1 - but book it in your own name as you will be paying for it!.
Please remember to let me know as well if you book a room, as I've just block-booked a number of rooms and will need to cancel them if there is no interest.
Just to add to the excitement, if anyone is interested, I have arranged to visit the Vulcan at Wellebourne Mountford Airfield at 2.30pm on Saturday 27th May - the only day available as they've booked up fast in 2017!!
It is £10 per person - the only stipulation (unfortunately, due to health & safety) is that we are only allowed a maximum of 12 persons and 10 vehicles.
Therefore, it will be first come, first served - and me and the better half are first!
For your £10 donation, you will get:
• Systems Demonstration (subject to serviceability on the day), which involves putting power on the aeroplane (without running the engines) and operating certain systems, including:
the control surfaces (elevons and rudder);
the navigation, anti-collision and landing lights;
operating the air brakes; opening the bomb bay doors.
During this time visitors are escorted around the aeroplane to ensure the best view and opportunities to take photos.
• A tour of XM655, including a visit to the cockpit, in groups of 4. This covers the engineering aspects of what we do to maintain the aeroplane, as well as Vulcan history and the history of our aeroplane in particular. During the tour, various doors and panels will be open to enable viewing and photographs. There is usually also the opportunity to view the Vulcan from different angles, including from above for those who are happy to climb the steps to the top of our 'giraffe'.
• A DVD of XM655 will be running indoors. Tea, coffee and merchandise will be available and our volunteers will be happy to talk to visitors and answer questions throughout the visit.
• A photoshoot with cars in front of the Vulcan.
Hopefully this will interest a few people - so please make sure you let me know which events you are going to attend.

Just an update for interested parties.
The Vulcan visit is now fully booked.
Still early days but there are still plenty of places for the Morgan Factory and Coventry Transport Museum visits.

Re: X300 & X308 Xcursion - May 2017
Update for everyone:
I have been asked if anything is 'on the itenary' after the Morgan Car Factory Tour?
If the tour goes to plan, it should start about 11am and finish at 1.30pm. I would assume that people would like to 'refuel' after the tour, in the cafe at the factory and peruse the shop so that would take it to 2.15 - 2.30pm.
My suggestion is, if anyone is heading back Coventry way, was to stop off at Hatton Locks (CV35 7JL), about an hour's run. This famously known as The Stairway To Heaven and consists of 21 locks. There is also a cafe (open until 4.30pm) that serves lovely afternoon teas!
This is entirely up to the individual - if they are interested, please let me know.
Anyone coming to the Coventry Transport Museum, there will be a Virtual Reality Experience kindly arranged by the West Midlands Police - whatever that may be. This is only the second time they have showcased the virtual reality equipment and there is no extra charge incurred.
I will be leaving the museum by 1.45pm (latest) because I will be attending the Vulcan event at Wellesbourne Airfield later on at 2.30pm.
If anyone else is doing so as well, I will meet you there!
