Front body dismantling finally started

Postby steve.pritchard146 » Sun Apr 03, 2022 11:16 am

Have started my 3.8S front end excavation for real - having pottered around the edges and delayed for months, I’ve taken lots of pics and am starting to cut out the rot…

I dropped the front suspension last weekend and will be looking to lower the engine next so that I can commence repairs/ replacement of the front RH chassis leg.

I’m trying to keep the work and scope contained to manageable chunks so that I don’t get overwhelmed but this front area of the car consists of so many discrete sections there is no easy way to repair one at a time.

My main concern at the moment (as well as building back structural strength) is to maintain all the exact suspension and engine mounting positioning/geometry which is causing a little angst.

So I would welcome advice from anyone who has worked in this space

You can see in the attached pic the view through the drivers wheel arch. Now I have cut out the brace section it’s easier to see that The front section from the engine mount forward is basically Swiss cheese. In fact trying to undo either of the bumper mount brackets moves the chassis. So that is where I need to start cutting out from.
