3.8 Mark 2 engine rebuild

Postby njordan » Fri May 25, 2018 8:27 pm

Can anyone suggest a reliable company who can remove, rebuild and re-install the engine in my Mark 2? I am based near Sevenoaks in Kent. The car is perfectly mobile but the engine sounds a bit “tired”.
Thanks

There are several specialists who will refurbish your engine, like VSE in mid Wales, but you would need someone to remove the engine first. Unfortunately I do not know of any garages local to you who may help but are you a member of the local Jag region as I would have thought they would have some contacts, or an adjacent region perhaps.
Best of luck,

Hello PPV,

I believe VSE have stopped their operation?

I would suggest asking in the club, maybe one of the speialists who advise (listed in the magazine) if they can recommend anyone. Ideally it would need to be someone who can also remove the engine at their premises, that makes it a lot 'neater'.

It would be a real shame if VSE have closed. They did a great job on my cylinder head some years ago and it is still going strong (touch wood!).

I'm a bit late to this one but I just had my engine rebuilt by an MG Specialist - Fisher MG in Sydenham. They out sourced the machining etc. The result seems excellent - I am still running in. www.fisher-services.co.uk
Owner Mark Wanstall is restoring an E-Type for his own use and he also had an XJ6 Coupe in the workshop, so he knows his Jaguars.
One advantage of an MG specialist is that the MG Owners Club has a supplier rating system and they have the top rating.
