MK2 tuning

I have recently bought a 1967 3.4 MK2 and subsequently spent money on ensuring the fundamentals are sorted, e.g. oil lub etc. All good apart from issues with cold starting. Could well be the auto choke mechanism. Once warmed, after a few minutes of coughing etc she goes well.
Does anyone know of a mobile jag expert in the Horsham area who can take a look.

Hi, did you manage to get the problem sorted? Initially it does sound like it could be the choke, especially as once it is running and warming up it seems ok. Does yor car have the auxiliary starting carb fitted? If so then there is a quick way to see if it is working. If you listen under the bonnet then there should be a loud hissing noise (this disappears when the car warms up). Also there is a thermostatic switch located in the front of the inlet manifold. If you take the lead off this and ground it you should hear the aux starting carb clicking (the ignition needs to be on for this). If it does then the switch may be at fault, the carb badly adjusted. If not then there may be a problem with the lead or the carb. The manual contains details on how to set this up etc.
If this carb is not the issue then there may be air leaks etc which need to be checked for as as it warms up these may close up and allow it to run Ok.
