Body number location?

Hi All,
I am a new member to the forum having recently acquired a mk2 3.4 saloon. The car is in need of restoration so I have been studying the forum posts and already learnt a lot !
I have with assistance from the club obtained a registration document for the car and the original registration number has been assigned. Many thanks to Keith Vincent for this who assisted me with arranging an inspection and sorting out the paperwork for me. I am trying to locate the body no on the vehicle. I have found the car no on the slam panel next to the bonnet catch. The cylinder head and block numbers are present and match as does the gearbox number. However I cannot find the body number , is it stamped somewhere on the vehicle? I have found a small number in the nearside rear of the boot below and in front of where the fuel pump should be. This is screwed on and looks original but has a number on it (M 048996) what is this ? it is not the same as the vin plate which reads E 053521.

On my 1968 MK2 there is a Alloy tag with the body number on it , behind the bumper !
Don't think you should post all your cars details on line , your making it easy for it to be cloned !

Is it just on a plate screwed on? not stamped into the body?

Mine was on a alloy plate pop riveted to the body !
