Daimler v8 wire wheel conversion

Hi all,

Question - and this time it's not about my Mk2!!!


I have managed to source a very nice set of wires for my 1966 daimler v8. Of course these will replace the bolt on wheels and hub caps. I have the new hubs and spinners etc. is this an easy job for an amateur like me?

Is it simply an unbolt of the old hubs and bolt on of the new ones - or are there any traps I can fall into?

Hi Tim

The front is fairly easy (not knowing your mechanically ability). When you remove the brake calipers take care to put the shims back where they came from and adjust the hud end float correctly.
For the rear you will most likely need a hub puller, this you can rent from the club or perhaps someone in your local region already has one which a couple of pints will get you the loan of. Some rear hub will come of easy and I've had some which were so tight they jumper about 2 ft away form the car, so keep clear. Be careful to protect the thread end of the half shaft.

John, or anyone. Do I need to replace the wheel bearings at the same time on this model?

Hi Tim

It would be worth replacing the front bearings and seal while your doing the job. The rear hubs are a different job, but again since you have got the hubs off and you have no idea as to when they were replace its as good a time to do the job, then YOU know when they were changed. Unless you have to pull the differential out, then you will not need to take the hubs off again.
