Hi i have a 1962 mk10 jag,im trying to find a fuel pump for it.Its the early type which is immersed in the petrol tankand has a none return valve on it to stop fuel coming in from the operative side.Ive tried several companies to no avail. If anyone has one or if you no where i could get one it would be much appreciated. Many thanks Adam.07825702240

Mk10 Fuel Pump

Postby stuarthardy » Mon Jun 15, 2009 9:01 pm

Hi Adam

I don't know for sure but your pump might be the same as used on the 3.8 E-type, which was also immersed. Part number is C19919 and I know that SNG Barratts sell a replacement for this (not the exact item but something they claim to be more reliable).

If the Mk 10 is anything like my 420 (not 420G) then it has twin upright tanks, one behind each rear wheel, where the E-type has a single horizontal tank. Jaguar are renowned for using common parts as much as possible so there's a chance they may be the same.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Regards
Stuart

Hi Stuart, many thanks for your reply.I called SNG today and explained what I needed, after several hours they called me back and said they don't stock anything that would be suitable. So it looks like im back to square 1 and because I don't really have a in depth knowledge mechanically im not sure how I go about finding an alternative.Cheers again.Adam

Mk10 Fuel Pump

Postby stuarthardy » Tue Jun 16, 2009 10:19 pm

Hi Adam

Why don't you do what I did on my 3.8 E-type and replace the pump with a later, non immersed, type. They are more efficient and deliver fuel at a better rate as the 3.8 E-types were renowned for fuel starvation at higher revs.

The down side to this is that you need to find a suitable location for the remote pump. It could be that the 420G had remote pumps anyway, although I don't know. If it does then you can simply acquire all the later bits and pieces (pipes, unions, etc) and substitute these.

All is not lost. If you're not happy about doing this for yourself then you could do worse than calling on someone such as Derek Watson or Dave Marks. There's always a way to keep your car going.

Good luck

Stuart

Thanks Stuart, yeah have made some more enquiries today.I called David Manners.the chap I spoke to there said if i wanted the original pump i would have to find a second hand one as they are obselete,he said fitting an external pump could work but may cause problems with fuel delivery, pressure etc.He also said the 3.8 etype submerged pump could work but was uncertain about the mounting bracket,he can get me one for £120.I have located a chap in Manchester who is breaking a 1961 mk10,its been stood for 6 years so its a gamble.Either way im determined to get sorted in time for my weekend away in Scarborough in a couple of weeks!! Many thanks again for your help, much appreciated.Adam

Hello Again

Is you car a 3.8 or a 4.2? I reckon a 4.2 E-type pump could do the job without a struggle, after all, it has essentially the same engine as yours. That's what I'm using in my 3.8 E-type and in my 420 Sovereign. I bought the 4.2 bits and pieces and converted it myself. It wasn't difficult.

There are, of course other pumps available. When I first got my Sovereign it was fitted with Bosch pumps of indetermined origin. Why not try somewhere like Holden Vintage and Classic or Europa. These places sell parts for all classics and special, so they don't have the "Jaguar parts need to be expensive" mentality of some of the Jagparts suppliers.

Worth a try?

Regards

Stuart

PS Enjoy Scarborough, I love the place but never get there.

Hi Stuart, its a 3.8.I will have a look at the 4.2 etype pump. What i need to do intially is stop the fuel coming from the working tank to the non working one,the pump had a non return valve built into it and since ive taken the pump out as soon as i start the car up the fuel comes flowing the the pipe so i will have to block it up for now.Hopefully when i have found the suitable replacement pump and some free time i should be able to sort it.Cheers

Hi Stuart, hope your well, just letting you know it looks like ive sorted it.I went to a place in Radcliffe,Manchester called Jagbreakers.org,they had a mk10 in the corner,99% of it had been stripped but the pumps were still in the tanks.I took both tanks and took one of the pumps out,had to destroy the petrol tank though as the securing nuts had rounded off! anyway i got the pump, cleaned it as much as i could, soaked it in wd40,stuck it in my car and couldn't believe it when it actually worked! I had to put my ear up to the wing and hear it pumping away to believe it,so it looks like the road trip is on,fingers crossed.Just thought i'd let you know, many thanks for your replies.Adam.
