Mk2 Cooling pipes - support brackets?

Postby cortinaman » Tue Apr 16, 2013 12:22 pm

Hi folks

I have a 1965 Mk2 3.8 MOD - which was a South African build and converted from an auto. I had a slight leak from the bottom radiator hose and thought it would be a good idea to go through the whole cooling system at the same time. I have bought replacements for the metal pipes which supply the heater from SNG Barratt. My question is, should these pipes have any support brackets at all? Mine appear to be cable tied to various bits of engine or firewall - and I would like to if possible keep it as original as possible.

thanks

Richard

Hi Richard

There were originally a couple of sprung clips to keep them in place. I'll have a look tomorrow and see if I can get a photo for you, although they are along the back of the engine so don't hold out to much hope.
Hopefully get back to you tomorrow night.

Many thanks, John. Having spent a few hours this evening fiddling with the jag I realise that I don't know which way round the straight coolant pipe along the side of the engine goes ie does the slight kink go at the front or the back?

I have bought SNG Barratt's stainless steel coolant pipe kit which looks very shiney but I'm a bit worried about the rubber hoses sliding off under pressure. Any thoughts?

Many thanks in advance

Richard

Hi Richard

Sorry I got side-tracked yesterday and never got to look at the Mk2. Did manage today and I only have the one bracket into the bulkhead securing both pipes to the heater and it is centered to the middle cylinder head. I didn't have time to take the air cleaner off to get a photo, but shall try and get to that tomorrow.

Sorry for the delay, been busy.

John

Hi John

Thanks for taking the pictures - much appreciated. Mine is lacking the supporting clip/bracket, and I'm not even sure that the holes in the bulkhead are there for it! I think I'll try and fabricate a copy of the bracket - but for now cable ties will have to do.

cheers

Richard
