Hi folks,
Can anyone please tell me what is the correct pressure cap for a 1961 Mk2 3.4.
When the automatic choke comes off the engine cuts out and this is so even when hot. I guess the carbs need tuning! if this is the case can anyone recommend an engineer who is 'capable', near to Shropshire?
Many Thanks, Neil

Hi Neil
There does not seem to have been a 'correct' rediator cap pressure for the Mk2 range - several different caps seem to have been fitted at different times to the same model. At the Mk2 seminar, David Marks recommended a 7lb cap for universal use.
Sounds like your carbs might need tuning, but they do not usually drift so much as to cause the engine to cut if it has been running well previously. Is the cutting out a new development or a long-standing but progressive problem? Check fuel filters (tank and under-bonnet), as fuel starvation can give you these symptoms and crud accumulates in the tank filter especially. Before attacking the carbs, check points /plug gaps (and ignition timing), and make sure that there is oil in the damper wells of the SU pistons. If these do not do the trick, tuning twin SUs is not complicated, you just have to be methodical. Most manuals have straightforward instructions.
Best wishes, David
