POWER STEERING MOD

looking to fit the original burman type power steering set up to my 65 3.4 i understand that the cross member needs a small mod if any one has first hand knowledge of carrying out this upgrade it would help me a lot

It seems generally accepted that the later Adwest steering box is the best as it is cast iron and there is a posibility of it being overhauled, but it needs the 420 front subframe to be fitted as well to mount it to.

Many years ago I approched Ken Jenkins about which steering rack to use to replace my standard steering box. He guided me to a 420 axle and adwest steering box, I would think they are very rare now and the complaints of the early racks being incorrectly positioned and so scrubbing the tyres are now overcome.

Just for general awareness. I believe some of the last of the Mk2's (don't have any books with me to show change over dates) but certainly the 340/240's with power steering had Adwest boxes, these will also have the correct sub-frame. Although unlike the 420, will not have the additional benefit of the three piston calipers, which gave you a steering and brake upgrade in one step.
Also as Brian said the rack system when set-up properly, now work well and don't scrub tyres.
