Bleeding PAs

Hi

I have had to change the high pressure hose on the power steering on my 63 mk 2. Does anyone know how to bleed it after doing this? Is there a bleed screw on top of the steering unit? Do I open that and run the engine? Any help appreciated!

HI, the manual says that you first check that the reservoir is filled to the top of the filter element, start the engine and allow to idle, check oil level in the reservoir and top up if necessary, increase engine speed to 1000rpm and turn wheels left and right 5 or 6 times. Then if your car has a bleed screw in the top of the power steering box and if stiffness is felt on either lock slacken this screw about half a turn or more to release the air whilst engine is running, then retighten.
If you have the Adwest system (3.4ltr from chassis 171583 and 3.8ltr from 235312 and 340 from 1J 80050) then the procedure is as follows: Fill the reservoir to the full mark on the dipstick (says use auto transmission fluid), bleed by releasing the hexagon plug in the steering unit top cover and start the engine, closing the plug when air stops coming out. With the engine running turn steering from lock tot lock and check for lumpiness (more bleeding may be necessary), then check reservoir and top up.

Hi,

Can the bleed screw be accessed without a pit or raising the car right up.

I have a leaking hose on the return - can get the hose off, but concerned I might not be able to bleed the system when done.

I have jack, ramps and axle stands only.
