fuel pump won't stop ticking

Hi All, The other day I noticed that the fuel pump kept ticking when the ignition was on but the engine was not running. Having read a similar topic on this board I took the pump to pieces to see if there was any dirt in the valves. The pump is an AUF 303. I noticed that the plastic piece on the inlet side valve had a crack in it and so I assumed that that was allowing fuel to back flow and hence the pump would continue to operate continually. I bought and fitted a new AZX 1308 as a replacement, the car runs fine but guess what this pump also continually ticks when the ignition is on but the engine is not running. Before I fitted this pump I drained the tank, flushed it with clean fuel and drained it again.

Any thoughts?

suction or discharge leak, the more likely is the discharge. If you can block off the feeed to each carburettor in turn, the chances are it will stop ticking although there is the possibility of both carburettors passing . It's just a bit oof suck it and see to eliminate the good areas of the circuit.
If neither of those stop it, remove the pump outlet and block the pump port with your thumb and switch on (Easy way is to disconnect the pump feed, switch on the ignition and the reconnect the pump). Obviously a certain amount of care is required and a second person will make it easier.If it still ticks with the outlet blocked there is a suction leak.
