I must admit when I replaced mine on the Mk2 I removed all the old 'horse hair' type. It was a messy job but I replaced with a modern lining material which was about 6mm thick as used by Toyota but sold by a trimmer at Stoneleigh restoration show. The difference in noise levels from before was amazing. I just used an impact adhesive as recommended to stick it on as one large piece.

Hello Paul,
I know that Classic Motor Cars of Bridgnorth use something similar to this :-

It's what I intend to use when the time comes.

Hi Alec, mine was a thick grey 'matting' rahter than the stiffer product you have identified which I thought more suitable for panel vibration in doors and so on. I could take a picture of what I used if anyone is interested as I still have some offcuts which I intend to use under rear seats etc.

Hi John
I'm not sure whether the Mk2 uses the same material as my Series 1 E-Type although my 420 seems to be done in the same way.
I bought my interior trim kit from BAS and this came with a headliner with a foam backing. I think it was about 3mm thick, from memory. This was glued directly to the roof and tucked in behind the cantrails and front and rear screen rails.
You could talk to BAS, I have always found them very helpful, or perhaps Woolies Trim.
Regards
Stuart
