Engine Bay insulation/ Soundproofing.

Hello I have a 1968, 340. I pulled the engine and gearbox yesterday to replace the rear crank seal and complete a few other jobs. One you the jobs was to install the sound proofing kit/ insulation that I purchased from SNG Barratt.
Have managed to work out where most of the sound proofing goes but there is one piece and I have no idea. Also there are two metal strips that rivet somewhere again I have no idea. Have attached two pictures of the mystery pieces. Hopefully some one will know where they should be fitted.

Mystery solved the insulation wraps around the air blower/ heater box still don’t know where the two metal strips go.

Sorry can't help with the sound insulation as mine has little in the engine compartment. However, are you replacing the crankshaft seal with a standard one or modifying it? I am asking as mine has a weep and I have fitted a home made drip tray for the time being whilst considering what to do.
It seems like a big job to do unless it has got really bad.

The leak was quite bad if I drove the car and then let it stand there would be a saucer sized pool of oil on the floor within 20 minutes. I hate leaks so the engine had to come out. I’m going to install the SNG Barratt upgraded rear seal once I get it. Wish me luck.

Sounds like a useful article for the magazine. Perhaps you could take some pictures and discuss with Mk2 Forum co-ord, Patrick Moynihan to see if interested?
