Rear wheel arch chrome trim

Hi.
I have just joined the forum. So hello to everyone.

I'm just coming to the point of a respray on the Mk 2 and wish to
remove the chrome trim, which is in good condition from above the
rear wheel arch. I'm anxious not to damage this in the process and
any advice given would be appreciated.

Can I thank Bob Falfa and Manx Neil for their previous question and
answer which covered the other trim on the car.

As you will have guessed the trim along the waistline is quite fragile.
There are push in fasteners which slot into the back of the trim and push into holes in the bodywork.
You may be able to gain access to these from behind where you can squeeze the clips and push them out of the holes. Alternatively try hooking a very fine string [or even Dental floss] behind the trim and easing it along between the trim and the body until you get to a clip. You should then be able to pull the trim off and the clip with it.

Hi, Terry,

If it's the 'hocky stick' shaped trim that curves from the rear door down to the rear bumper then on mine it snaps onto a series of clips which are pop-riveted into holes in the body. I had to prise mine off but I had the advantage of them being in a poor state and knowing I'd be replacing with new.

Sorry if this is too late to be of any use - with the bulletin boards being offline for so long last year I got out of the habit of looking!
