boot wont open!

the boot catch on my s type (66) wont open the boot the catch itself will lock and unlock but the actual lock wont open i guess the linkage has become detatched but how do i get inside the boot to operate it???
any thoughts/solutions gratefully recieved

Hello David,

the MK 2 latch is pretty compact, i.e no real linkage as such. Does the push button feel as though it is pushing against something. I suspect that a little force will be needed. A broad flat lever to try and prise it open as you hold the button in. I suspect either some misalignment or possibly something like the edge of a blanket or something has got trapped between the lid hasp and the lock?

thanks for reply but this is an s type not a mk 2 so the operating button is in the rear number plate light housing not at the bottom of the boot as on a mk2

I hadn't realised the 'S' type was different, I really can't suggest any thing further. Hopefully someone who is more familiar with this will respond. Failing that possibly one of the club technical advisors is worth contacting?

It's probably no help given that the button is in a different place but here goes.

I had the same problem with my 240 when something in the boot jammed the latch. Highly technical cure was to do an emergency stop from about 40mph which dislodged the offending item.

Obvious cavaet about safety. I did mine in a near empty car park.

Just another thought.

Have you taken the number plate off? Again on the 240 there are some rectangular holes which give some limited access to the boot.
