Hi,
has anyone any tips on optimising door gaps, including spats?

Patience! Unless you have changed doors then it is just a matter of fiddling with all the variables. I used a jack under mine to lift them whilst tightening the door bolts as they are pretty heavy. Not sure of any easy method.

Thanks for the reply, PPV.
I am working on the rear right door. The door bottom is proud of the sill and the door top is underflush to the B post. I was hoping to just slide the top hinge outwards. The lower rubber door seals might be preventing this. Also am I wrong in thinking that the 5th and 6th hinge screws coming from the other side of the b-post, offer the opportunity to position the hinges with the rear door closed.
Also somehow the spat sits too low. Is there such a thing as long reach Dzuz fasteners? Could/ should they be replaced with a screw?
I am avoiding drastic action for the moment.

Hello peter,

as far as the spats go, are you saying the depth between the seating face and the wing\door is too large. If so rather than getting longers Dzus you could remove, space and refit the wire bases? The other critical area is the sponge seal gutter which actually determines where the spats sit? Obviously how thick the sponge is is a factor?

As an aside I believe the factory had a special tool for 'adjusting door fit, a length of 4" x 2" timber. :-)

Hi Alec'
the wires are fitted behind the hole. If they are spaced away, the spat will sit further inboard.

To be honest I do not know what is wrong or what I have done wrong. I cannot see how removing the door card will help at this stage. I am inclined to think:
The spat needs spacing away at the top. Is the wire fitted on the correct side? Demon Tweeks do a range of lengths of Dzus fasteners. I may order a couple.
The door needs to go further in at the bottom. ? The lower door seal may need to be removed and see then what space is available for it. What do you think. I am holding fire at the moment. This car is not going to be perfect. I just want it minimally wrong and not mess it up.

Hello Peter,

Moving the wire to the front may be too much. Also the different lengths may be also too much. From the picture it doesn't look like a lot but rather difficult to tell? I can't remember if you can get behind that panel, no I guess would be the answer. I was thinking of some local dressing of the panel to bring it out a bit, although that could possibly be done from the outside with a slide hammer. As I said before the seating sponge strip is really the first thing to correct as the Dzus pulls the spat tight to that.

If the leading edge of the door is in line with the C post then dressing the door flange to sit better along the sill and the spat is one way, ideally before the door has it's final paint coats. That of course doesn't look like your situation.

I have “lost” one of the wires that the Dzuz fastener locks onto! Is there an easy way to replace it?Alec G.

Hello Alec,

they are rivetted on and the part number for the spring (Jaguars description of that) is 6857, however Davi Manners web site does not list it, despite selling the panel itself with the springs attached.

Hi all,
I found https://www.carbuilder.com/uk/dome-head ... gJ4tvD_BwE

Also southco seem to own Dzus. I think they would be the supplier to the people we buy from https://files.southco.com/static/Literature/D4.en.pdf

I have just got some bits from Demon Tweeks. Not tried yet https://www.demon-tweeks.com/dzus-faste ... lsrc=aw.ds

I have the hardware but cannot see how the wire fits. Does anyone have a diagram?

Hello Alec,

the wires are rivetted directly to the D post panel. If you go to the Martin Robey website there is a picture of that panel from the rear with the springs attached.

I have not achieved a great deal, apart from replacing the dzus fasteners. The gaps are better but I cannot now remember what they were like before I started playing about.
I used the smaller size of Dzus on the Demon Tweeks site but had to stretch the wire. The larger might have been better.
