Chrome

Hi

I'm at the point in my restoration of my 1961 3.8 MK2 Jaguar that I need to deal with the chrome. I've spoken to several chrome platers who seem to have wildly varying views and prices. My problem is that I have some badly pitted parts that all seem to be castings rather than pressed steel. I'm told by more reliable chrome plating companies that they won't be able to guarantee a good result on these parts namely, door handles, overriders and tail lights. I'm trying to find decent second hand replacements but good tail lights are very hard to track down. So my question is, do I repair and re-chrome the existing parts or do I buy new or refurbished? I'm worried about the quality of new or refurbished so any recommendations in terms of suppliers would be much appreciated.

Secondly, can anyone recommend a good quality chrome plater?

Hi 470HW, sorry for the late reply but have only just seen your post. I guess some may not have replied as you do not say which part of the country you reside. If it helps I had my door handles and tail lights rechromed at Vernon Moss in Brighouse Yorkshire. They did a great job on my door and bonnet strips and i was very pleased with the handles and lights although there is still som slightpitting which could not be hidden.They cannot " make a silk purse out of a sows ear" to coin the phrase but as I live within traveling distance i delivered the parts and we discussed the outcome beforehand. They are slow though as once delivered jobs are done in order and can take up to three months and not cheap or should i say inexpensive Tony D

It is really only the doors handles, rear lights and the boot light fitting above the number plate that is really diificult as they are mazak. If not pitted badly then a good competent chromer will be able to produce the goods. Where abouts are you?
