Hi
The automatic gearbox ignition inhibitor switch has stopped working preventing the car starting in 'park' mode.
I have managed to wire around the switch so the car solenoid turns the car over but not the perfect solution.
Looking at the switch it appears impossible to get to allow either a replacement be fitted or adjustment made, - has anyone cut a hole in the gearbox tunnel to access the unit?
This seems a bit brutal but I remember years ago when I had a series 1 e-type people were cutting holes in the body above the rear diff to access the brakes. Series 2 cars had access panels built in by Jaguar...!
Cheers Steve

Hello Stevie,
it's your car, but I would personally make some sort of access hatch, then make a cover which can be fixed with self tapping screws. It's covered by the console or carpet after so will not be an eyesore. I don't know the location of the switch on an automatic)

Hi Alec
Thanks for your comment, switch is near side. A couple of months ago I bought an electronic 'endoscope' ( camera on a flexible wire ) will hopefully be useful in locating the switch prior to cutting.

Steve
