Boot Lid

A couple of times recently the boot lid of my Mk2 has dropped on my head whilst I've been putting things in, or taking things out of the boot. Does anyone know if the springs in the hinges which are supposed to hold the boot open can be adjusted to do just that?

Have you had a look at the springs , one may be broken !
