paint code location

Apologies for my ignorance, I've only had my jag. for 3 months but... Where do I find the paint code on my 1963 3.4 mk2? I believe it is imperial maroon but I would like to be sure.

I was on my 3rd Jaguar by 1963 and don't think paint codes as we know them today existed. I'm trying hard to remember if metallic paints had even arrived. I do remember that the colours available were listed in the back of ,I think ,the parts manual

I can't remember if Jaguar put that information on the identification plate rivetted to the inner wing, but the workshop manuala nd parts book should have the codes. Sixties Triumphs used to put paint and trim codes on their plates.

My 1962 MK 2 is painted with opalescent gunmetal paint, i.e. a metallic.

Thanks for the replies. I couldn't see any info relating to the paint colour on the plate on the inner wing, and if there weren't paint codes as such back then that explains why I've not been able to find one. I've seen info on the web that suggests Imperial Maroon was twinned with a red interior but mine has what looks to be an original (apart from the seats) beige/tan interior.

Interesting Rob, it claims to be the definitive list and is approved by Jaguar Heritage. However, I can't find most of the Opalescent colours, only 2 shades of maroon.

I realise these things are a labour of love and are easy to criticise but it is entirely possibly that someone may look at this list and erroneously decide that their car is not the colour it actually is. Proceed with caution.

The 'Origainal jguar Mk1 and MK 2' book gives Imperial Red with a red interior, however does add that Jaguar allowed owners to specify non standard colours for trim and paint at a cost, so yours may well be how it came from the factory.

I draw you to the header which says this list is incomplete, but at the time with the help of two of the best in the business Anders and Den, Letitia did what she could, access to this sort of details is now all but denied by Jaguar Heritage. There is a plea for info on any gaps and further info, feel free to chime in with any add ons

There are numerous Jaguar paint code lists on the internet – most are incorrect!

This is the definitive list, which I began in 2008 with the assistance of Anders Ditlev-Clausager. It was finally completed by Den Carlow in 2012 and lodged with Jaguar Heritage as the official Jaguar Paint Code list.

Please take a look, and if you do not see your Jaguar paint code listed, PLEASE email Xclusively Jaguar, as there are still many codes to be added when time permits, so that we can have a list which is as complete, and therefore as useful, as possible

My point exactly Rob, it claims to be definitive but then says it isn't complete, which means it can't be definitive. People using it could fool themselves into using the wrong paint code.

As I said, I'm not knocking the effort that has gone into it, or the motives for doing it, it is all very noble. I'm just advising caution because, as we all know, there is too much erroneous data on the internet.
