Door rebuild
Moderators:Aceman, ecosselynx
Hi, again. I am slowly rebuilding my 240 and after a sprey job I am now, unfortunately, going to have to take the doors off to fit seals and to rebuild the doors while they are off, which i assume is better than trying to do it with the doors on. I have lots of photos etc etc of when i dismantled them but need to refresh myself of the order and process to refit the door handles, lock and release mechanism along with the window and winder mechanism. Can anyone remember the sequence for the rebuild, i am sure i will figure it out by trial and eror, but would appreciate any guidance to save some time.
Re: Door rebuild
Hi, did this on my car some time ago. Much easier to fit the seals with doors off and it is easy to do that. I did it by myself but much easier with some help as they are heavy! The difficult bit is that near the hinge side.
The key is also to ensure you get good quality seals. They are not all the same. Also how you 'stick' them into the groove. I used evostik and it has lasted for abot 18 years so far but the seals are aging a bit especially the front ones which get more use.
I am not sure of the rebuild sequence of window winder etc as it is a long time ago but it seemed fairly obvious upon dismantling last time. Would be a useful article for the magazine if you can take a few pics as you do it I would think.
Best of luck.
