Re: E TYPE UPGRADE
Hi Bob,
I'm assuming you are referring to the front brakes?
I can't answer your question, but can I suggest you compare the caliper mounting lugs, specifically the distance between centres of the two bolts, that will tell you if they have a chance of fitting. Then its a case of dismantling the hub to measure the PCD of your mkII and E type discs.
The early 'Dunlop' disc brakes are very small pad size and piston size compared to the later 420 and late E type 'Girling' caliper and the later 'girling' caliper is of the same type as modern calipers. The main difference is the position of the seal, early calipers have the seal on the bottom of piston and the cylinders get pitted whereas the later arrangement has the seal at the top of the cylinder.
If the reason for changing is to improve braking efficiency (to stop sooner) then fit a more modern caliper and thicker disc to dissipate the extra heat.
I used a 420 upright, disc and caliper on the original front subframe, but later fitted it all to the later 420 subframe for its power steering.
Best of luck
Brian
