3.4 auto to manual query

Has anyone done this and if so can they advise? One area I particularly want to know about any changes needed to the rear diff. All advice gladly accepted!
Re: 3.4 auto to manual query
I assume you are asking about the diff ratio? On the rear cover of the diff there used to be a small tag giving the ratio (pinion teeth/crown wheel teeth) it may be lost by now so you will need to count the turns of the prop. shaft for one complete turn of the axle(wheel).
Are you going for the all synchro and overdrive box (nice) or a modern 5 speed box?

Re: 3.4 auto to manual query
Thanks for your thoughts. I have a four speed all syncro with overdrive in mind. My concern is the amount of work that needs to be undertaken to make such a conversion possible. I have been advised that the diff does not need to be touched by one or two "experts" and by others that it does. If I go ahead I want to make sure that it is done properly!

Re: 3.4 auto to manual query
Hi Jack
If your auto car has the right diff it should be a 3.54:1 ratio and no need to change it, it will raise the overall gearing a little to give slightly lower revs at cruising speed. It will mean you speedo is out of caliberation, as the normal manual/overdrive diff ratio was 3.77:1. You can get the speedo re-done to suit.

Thanks for that John. I think it might be cheaper and easier to just get a manual/o'drive!
