Hi, This is the first time I have used the Bulletin Board, so if things go wrong and I have ended up telling you how to make a cheese sandwich. It`s my fault! I have been restoring my Mk 2 since 1988 ! and still enjoying the challenge. At the moment I am in the process of converting my automatic D G gearbox to manual transmission. I have aquired a Getrag 5 speed gearbox from Geof Maycock along with bellhousing, adaptor plate and clutch. All seems to be going together well so far and I am at the point where I am going to ask Pete Bell what gearbox oil should be used for the unit and what the two electrical plugs are for on the side of the gearbox.

Hi John, thanks for your help. Today I have taken out the two switches and by looking into the gearbox I can see that the top switch actuates when reverse is selected and the bottom yellow plug switch actuates when 1st gear and 2nd gear is selected. I am in contact with both Peter Bell and David Marks who are very helpfull. Will update when further information. Regards Colin.
Re: Getrag gearbox
Hi
I am looking to put a Getrag 5 speed box into my car
But I think my box has the electrical speedo drive not the mechanical
Does anyone do the conversion? (electrical to mechanical speedo drive)
I want to retain the mechanical speedometer
Thanks
