Hi all,
As it was a nice warm day here I jacked the car up and changed the gearbox and diff oils, it is 4.5 years and only 4000 miles since last time, but found the gearbox oil (EP90 in a full synchro and overdrive) OK but definitly due for a change.
The limited slip diff oil LS 80/90 oil was dark and overdue for a change.
Even though the milage is very low the oil had 'weathered' over time.
Engine oil is always changed every year before MOT, even though with running on LPG it is only slightly off colour.

Re: oil changing the transmission
I intend changing the gearbox (manual and overdrive) and diff oil in the near future on my car.
What oil did you use?

Re: oil changing the transmission
Hi Owen,
I have a full synchro and overdrive box from a later car (couldn't get the moss box repaired or get on with it at the time) so I was advised to use EP90 for it and for the diff 80/90 limited slip oil.
I am a fan of Comma oil and found that they nolonger make/supply EP90, so bought some Carlube Hypoid gearoil (took some phoning to find some EP90). The diff oil is Comma Limited slip LS80w/90.
I had emailed Comma for their recommendations but stayed with the EP90 gear oil for this box.
Best wishes
Brian

Brian
Thank you for the information.
I have some Carlube EP90 in the garage which I will use so just have to get some LS80w/90 for the diff.
I didn't realsie that there was a specific oil for limited slip diffs.

Re: oil changing the transmission
Hello Owen.
check the oil you have, if it says GL5 on the container it's not suitable for older gearboxes and differentials. The type you need is marked GL4. The former attacks brass components in the gearbox\differential.
