Brake Lights.

My brake lights only come on when the pedal is depressed quite strongly. Light braking does not activate the lights.

I assume this is down to adjustment of the brake light switch.
Before I start scrabbling around inside / under the car could someone ell me where the switch is located and how it adjusts?

The manual doesn't appear to mention it.

I don`t know about the Mk2 but my 420 has a hydraulic switch fitted on the brake lines near the servo in the engine bay.My was getting lazy so i replaced it with a new one purchased off ebay for £8.Sorry i can`t be of more use.While i was in the process of finding the fault i fitted a motorcycle plunger type rear brake switch with cable ties and a spring down by the foot pedal,worked for me for nearly 1k miles until i got the new switch.

Assuming that you have a Mk2, the brake light switch is a hydraulic unit located on the offside of the engine bay, roughly under the brake fluid reservoir, screwed into a small manifold connection in the brake pipework. It has two Lucar (spade) connectors that should have green wires connected to them. Replacing the switch will spill brake fluid if you have not drained the hydraulics, but if you are careful you can minimise this by having a rag to catch the drips and quickly putting your finger over the hole as the switch is lifted clear. It does not matter which wire is connected to which of the Lucar terminals when you put it all back together.

Thank you folks for your prompt reply. I would have been looking in the footwell by the brake pedal!

My car is a 240 but I assume it will be the same. I shall have a look see.
