Have a Daimler V8 2 1/2 that had a reconditioned engine about 3000 miles ago runs very well but has developed a squeak on tick over. Oil pressure good all the time. Appears to be good oil flow to rocker feeds.
I have removed the fan belt, changed the distributor and rev counter drive and it still squeaks.
No different with clutch down. Less noticeable when cold.
Sounds like squeak ,squeak, squeak on tick over, cannot hear it as revs rise.
Any suggestions?
Chris

Hi
I know nothing about the V8 specifically but a thought occurs. Are your engine mountings done up tight? There might be a bit of movement which is being taken up fully as revs rise but when idling the engine is bouncing about a little on the rubbers. Could be a totally daft idea but perhaps worth a try.
After that I'd say check all pulleys (especially water pump) and pipes and cables that run between the body and the engine/transmission assembly.
Squeaks and rattles are among the most difficult things to diagnose but give maximum irritation when driving your pride and joy.
Good Luck
