engine numbers

Good afternoon
I am hoping that someone can help with engine numbers
I have a 62 mk2 3.8 with an engine no LC2629-8 stamped on the cylinder head, which as far as I can see is the original no and correct for the car, however the number on the block is stamped 17523 with a date cast in the block of 5-4-62(which seems to look correct for the age of the car, my question is how do these numbers tie up
any help would be appreciated
