Is it possible to remove the sump with the engine in the car?

I seem to have a leak from the sump gasket area (after having all other culprits repaired). The question is can I remove the sump with the engine in situ? Advice please.

the simple and glib answer is yes. However you willl need to remove the front subframe. I don't think it will drop down enough if you don't?

That is what I was thinking as it looks like the oil pump causes ann issue. I was wandering if I could kack the engine slightly also?
Such a pain to get the engine out to change a gasket.

Hello Paul,

taking the engine out means removing the front subrame anyway. (Although I did see a You Tube video of a MK 2 restoration where they removed the engine upwards, Possible but not without a ramp and high hoist, and then they struggled)
To get any height on the engine with the subframe in place would mean, I think, unbolting all mountings and the exhaust so the rear can be dropped and the front lifted. I'm sure there will still be limitations however?
Removing the front subframe is dependant on how long since it was last removed. In theory just a few fasteners and the steering and brake lines. A bit more work putting it back but you can be sure of a much easier and better job on the sump gasket with it out of the way.
