Wrong Wiring diagram.

Hi again, having been a contributor to this forum in the past and having received lots of assistance during my Mk2 rebuild, I now need some help as I am struggling helping a friend with his rebuild of a Daimler 250. He removed the voltage regulator and re installed it, although he knows diddly squat about electrics, and was shocked to see billowing smoke. I have checked the wiring against the attached drawing only to find the workshop manual drawing he has does not match the actual wiring. The car has been converted at some stage in the past to negative earth but the regulator wiring is all old braded type insulation. Referring to the attached diagram, The two Brown White wires on terminal B are correct to the Ammeter and light switch. The Brown Green on terminal F is correct to the Dynamo. One Brown Yellow on terminal D is correct again to the Dynamo which leaves me with two wires. One is a heavy duty Brown which meters out to the Starter Solenoid and the opposite side of the Ammeter, the other what looks like a Brown yellow or white is a thinner cable but it does not connect to the Ignition warning light. Nothing measures to earth for terminal E. These 6 wires were connected and operated I am told before the restoration was started so I can only assume that there is another diagram which I cannot find on the internet anywhere.. Can anybody shed any light on this problem or better still the solution. Thank you in anticipation Tony

OK It seams no one has another drawing. I have therefore rewired the regulator as per this drawing, hopefully, when we get her going again, I've got it right.

OK the rewire of the Regulator worked fine but now we have another issue. AGAIN, my friend removed the wiper motor and the wire labelling has all but disappeared. AGAIN, the colours in the manual wiring diagram are different but I have managed to figure it, I think. The problem we have is that when the switch is returned to the off position the wipers just stop and do not move towards parked. Also, the switch operates fast speed in the slow speed position and slow speed in the fast speed position. I have tried reversing the connections to the resistor and the field coil but for some reason that stops the wipers working all together. Strange I know, hopefully someone out there is a wiper motor expert, otherwise they will stay working as described as I have run out of ideas. Help Please Tony

it is quite complicated the way these wipers are connectd.
I would imagine the colours from the motor are in plastic cable so easily read? The loom can be an other matter as the colours fade. It's handy to ring out the cables from the switch so you know which is which. (Disconnect each end of the cable on test to avoid getting confusing backfeed readings). A simple bulb and battery suffices if you have no meter.
From my manual:-
Motor.
Black (earth) connects to terminal 2 of the switch. The motors is using switched earth to operate rather than switching the supply.
Blue (Armature connection) connects to motor supply green in the loom fed from the ignition fed fuse fuse, I.e the motor is always live with the ignition on. This may be your problem with the park not working.
Red (Armature connection) connects to green\red in the loom, terminal 3 on the wiper switch (The numbers are on the switch but small so use a magnifying glass if you eyes are like mine)
Orange (Resistor connection)connects to green\yellow, terminal 1 on the wiper switch.
Field coil (not colour identified on the manual's drawng connects to green\white, terminal 5 on the wiper switch. (Note the resistor and the field coil have acommon connection internal to the motor, i.e. they are in parallel connection)
Blue connects with green\blue in the loom, terminal 4 on the wiper switch.
Brown connects to green\brown in the loom, terminal 6 on the wiper switch.
The drawing also shows two links, which may be integral to the switch. 4 and 6 link to un numbered terminals which have no outgoing connections but are probably switched internally.
The above may seem slightly daunting but take it step by step and it all should come out OK?

Alec, thank you for the detailed reply which will help. I do now know from google that, I think, the park switch may be in the wrong way round. I left it the way i found it but my friend may well have messed with it when he cleaned and lubricated the motor. It will be next week before I can go round to do some more work on it but will let you know what happens. Thank again Tony

Alec, this is the site I found last night which may be of use to others. Unfortunately having finished my Mk2 she has had to go, medical reasons, and I bought a Japanese import pristine Automatic XJ40. Therefore I do not regularly read the Mk2 forum any more. A pity as the XJ40 forum is VERY quiet.

Wipers are more complicated than they look. One tip, which I learnt the hard way, is to lift the wiper arms up or remove them if you are uncertain as to where they are going to end up when adjusting the park position.
I have got a new proprietary wiper motor for my MK 2 which should be better than the original. Different wiring so I had to do a matrix of the switch postions and which terminals are made in which position. Took a little sorting.
The car is along way from finished so they have not yet been tested on the car.
This section, and the rest of the classic sections are also very quiet. I have little interest in the moderns.
