Starter motor removal
Moderators:Aceman, ecosselynx
The starter on my mark 2 has failed. After consulting the Haynes manual I started dismantling the interior to get at the the cover plate for the upper bolt-BUT- the previous owner fixed the gearbox tunnel with resin and there no longer is a hole! Has anyone successfully removed and refastened the upper bolt from below? Which tools did you use?
Re: Starter motor removal
I thought that the access was via a circular access plate behind the right hand heater hose from the air distribution box. This aperture should be held in by 2 scews.
Having said that I am sure I got to mine from the engine bay with a 'bent' ring spanner when I refurbished about 15 years ago but I stand to be corrected.

Hello Jagxj6,
a socket and suitable length(s) of extension bar. The two bolts are linked together so do not need to be held with a spanner.
I was not even aware of an accesss plate.
