Changing the engine bay wiring

Postby Doherto » Sat Aug 27, 2016 5:44 pm

Hi again, i am a newish member having purchased a 1968 240 which i understood was in "good" running order. I tidied up the engine bay as i had to remove the carbs to fit a positive earth 123 which was very successful. However when i started to check over the mechanics i found the head gasket gone. Not being able to trust anything on the car i have removed the drive train and the block, head and gearbox are being overhauled and I will fit a new clutch before refitting. Why is this in electrics, well, I have the opportunity to upgrade the wiring in the engine bay but that begs many questions most of which i have listed below in the hope of gaining some answers. I will be keeping the positive earth for simplicity and have found the Stelth Dymamator which is a 45amp alternator in a C40 dynamo housing and is positive earth. Has anyone used this product and if i fit it, as it has built in regulation, does that mean i can bypass the RB 340 regulator. If so has anyone done that and can advise the wiring changes required. ALSO i intend replacing the two fuse system by splitting the supplies and individually fusing them, installing relays for loads and generally making things easier to manage in future. Therefore can anyone advise what fuse ratings should be used for the the following circuits.
Fuel pump
Horns
Indicators and wipers
Brake lights and dash voltage regulator
Screen wash
Reverse Light and heater fan
Internal lights
Indicators and main beam flash
The above being what i BELIEVE are the circuits connected to the 50 and 35 amp fuses

Sorry for the long list but I am preparing to do this work after my holiday and would appreciate any help anyone can offer.

Hi

take a look at Kriss Motors info http://fairislepress.com/WP/?p=5889

They have masses of info on the wiring, there should be all the info you need here, a great reference, see the master schematics at http://fairislepress.com/WP/wp-content/ ... MATICS.pdf also, I'm sure there are fuse sizes in the information.
