My car is being worked on at the moment so I don't have access to look, but I want to know what colour the original instrument lighting is. I thought it was green, but looking at the speedo and tacho (which I have out) there are blue domes in the lamp holes so I'm puzzled.
Are these domes easy to remove?
I plan to replace the original bulbs with LEDs and these are available in different colours. Just want to make sure I have matching instruments.
Can anyone tell me please?

Re: Instrument light colour
Hi, my 62 mk2 has blue tinted lighting but I think later models had green tinting,
I've fitted white led bulbs to my instruments and they are hundred times better
than the standard bulbs but still show some blue tint.
Dave.

My 66 Daimler V8 Saloon has blue domes in the instruments.
If you want to remove them you would drill out the 2 securing rivets. In the past they would be removed to allow more light through, making the lighting slightly better than appalling. There is no point in removing them.
I left my filters in and fitted blue positive earth LED's from Gil Keane at 4Sight Lighting who advertises in the JEC magazine (01789 491460 ). He is very helpful.
One problem that concerned me was that the bright/dim function will not work. It can be overcome by fitting ( I think ) a 2K ohm resistor to the circuit, but in the end the lighting looks superb and I saw no need to dim it.
I don't know how white LED's would look through the blue filters but he did offer to send two sets and keep the ones I preferred. I didn't take up the offer.
I'm more than happy with the result.

Re: Instrument light colour
Hi, I have a 1961 Mk2 and the lights have blue dome tinge to them. It appears to be standard as some of them are slightly 'burnt' from use I suspect.

Re: Instrument light colour
Thanks to all. I guess that bears out the blue domes in the large instruments.
