Indicator Switch

Postby jagman723 » Sat Aug 10, 2013 9:33 am

My car is off the road at the moment :( so I can't check out what I believe to be the case so looking for help please.

I think that my indicator switch is or at least should be self-cancelling. It's a 1961 RHD 3.8 manual.

The switch is faulty and am trying to source a replacement, but all I can find on line are non self cancelling switches.

Am I going mad :?

Thanks

I have a similar car and yes it is self cancelling.

In an attempt to get my wife to drive the car I fitted a sierra column set of switches inside the housing (running via relays) so all control functions were on the column, so you can fit something else inside if you can't get the switch you want.

Best of luck

steering column which is ajustable.

Thanks. I don't then understand why each of the main suppliers describes the switch they sell as "non self cancelling". Are they not supplying the right switch or is it the column clip that does the business so their replacement switch would be OK?

Hi, I think there is a nylon spring clip pt no 10484 that fits on the
switch which make contact with the colunm clip. I would phone them and ask.
I found this on Martin Robeys site.

Thanks all.

I double checked the switch and the ring/lug on the column. After that I spoke with SNG Barratt who, after a bit of in house consultation said the notation on their website was wrong and the switch is a self-cancelling type as it should be with the nylon spring as described.

Seems the confusion is that the later switch is self-cancelling in its own right with a ring fitting the column like later E-Types, etc.

Has anyone experience of replacing the plastic spring 10484? I am not sure whether this can be done in situ or whether the assembly must be removed.
I guess the flasher pivot can be pressed out. It looks like a spring pin.
I also do not know where the Moss-supplied aluminium bush comes into it.

I sorted this out, sort of, in the end. The aluminium bush is riveted-over to join parts together.
You have to be careful not to lose parts but it does go together.
In my case, the new Moss part is not the same as the old one and does not cooperate as well with the striker plate. I am sure it was envisaged, that the whole subassembly would be replaced.
