Henly's front centre armrest / storage box

In Nigel Thorley's book, Jaguar Mark 1 & 2, I noticed the period optional
extra of a front storage box / centre armrest on page 82. This was
apparently available as an aftermarket item from Henly's the main Jaguar
dealer in London and elsewhere. They also made a range of bespoke fitted luggage.

I am keen to find one of these 'cubby coxes' for my 1963 3.4 Mk 2 in dark
blue to match its interior but have found the item very rare. I have never
seen one on ebay. They come up infrequently in the JEC classified ads and not in my colour.

I was quoted about £450 by Aldridge of Wolverhampton to make a 'one off' but they said it would be much cheaper to make a batch.

I was wondering if other owners might be interested in finding a reputable
trimmer who would be interested in reproducing a batch of these items.
Ideally we would find a member with one of the boxes who would allow it to be used as template.

So let the us know if you have an original, how you use it and whether you are prepared to help other members by offering it as a template. Other members who would be interested please register your interest. We might be able to register sufficient interest in other hard to come by items to make their re-supply a viable and affordable project. And finally manufacturers and suppliers let us know if you are keen to join us in this endeavour to add a little period luxury to our cars.

Hi

I made my box and had a local trimmer cover it for me. See picture of interior in the register reg number 209 GYE.
I just used ply and square for strengh around the edges, unlike the original one, my hinge just lifts the whole top.

If anyone is interested I could send some photo's of it. A good thing to have on a long drive and a place to throw your passport etc.

These were actually produced by a company called;
"OYLER" of 62,New Cavendish St. London W1
I have a lovely patinated one in red leather, that is NOT for sale, but coincidentally, a few years ago, I restored a 1966 3.8auto, which had dark blue leather, and on one of my trips back to Blighty, I was fortunate enough to find a BRAND NEW NEVER INSTALLED on in the same blue! Imagine my delight! I scooped it up at an Autojumble,(Ally Pally I think), for £50.00! Unfortunately, it went with the car when I sold it some years ago, but what a lovely bit of 'kit'. I can take pics of it, and measurements, and send them on to any interested parties.
