Hi, I have just bought an S type Jaguar reg SPY226C a 1965 automatic, car needs some restoration work, I have very little history with the car, I have obtained the heritage certificate and the car was delivered new to Redcar in the north east.
I live near Durham City, the original registration was CDC 170C, I bought the car on eBay from Bridgened South Wales, previous owner had the car for nine years, but knows nothing of its previous history other than he bought it from a man in North Wales.to hear from anyone who knows anything on this car would be great.

If the supplying dealership is listed on the Heritage Certificate and still in business they may have the original sales information under their DDW (Direct Dealer Warranty) information file. Mentioning the JEC if you're a member often helps

Hi Richard,
Thanks for your reply, the supplying dealer was Gerald Fleming luxury cars and coach builders of Redcar, however they are long gone.

Best of luck with the request. I made a similar one and no luck whatsoever. A bit disappointed especially as it has had 8 owners!
Regards,

Hi Paul,
Thanks, funnily enough I think I’m owner number eight, thought it worth a go anyway, I know SPY226C was added to the car in 1985 and according to the dvla had a colour change in 1990, but the colour is the original opalescent grey, with light blue leather interior.
The car is all matching numbers and appears to have all original panels.

Hi, mine had a change of colour from gey exterior/blue interior to white/red. Don't know when but the other issue is that the first record the DVLA have is in 1980! No info whatsoever before that except the dealer it was originally sent to but they have since lost their records.
Just have to keep hoping something turns up as I would like to know something about it as it has only got about 89K on the clock.
Regards

Not so long ago, for a small fee, the DVLA would provide copies of all previous V5s and logbooks which provided a good papertrail.
However now, due to data protection laws they no longer will give out the information.

Luckily I got the details that I have from the DVLA and that is how I was able to write to some previous owners. I know the law supposedly stops them issuing info but looking at what they did issue I am not sure why it is a problem.

Thanks gents, DVLA records seem to infer my car was imported in 1985, when the spy number was added, but that seems to me to be wrong, but the history before 1985 is sketchy.
I have deciphered the wording on the old leather key ring that came with the car keys, this states
Automobile Centre Ltd, Roseville Road Leeds, so looks like the car passed through their place, again this dealer is no longer in existence.

I would also be interested to hear about good mechanical servicing and bodywork repair specialists in the north east, companies that don’t charge a fortune, I’m not intending to cut any corners with the restoration works, but I don’t have a big budget available.
