Hi All, does anyone have any opinions on any anti theft devices, e.g. wheelclamps, immobilisers, secret electrical isolator switches etc.

Hi, it depends on what you are trying to protect really. If you want to make it difficult for someone to take your car then you need to simply have a secret switch to isolate the ignition. If you want to prevent someone getting into your car then with an old car like ours that is very difficult as all doors and windows are generally easy to access. If you want a deterrent then something like a visible steering lock helps. Alarms are generally ignored these days. A tracker may be better but little discount given by insurers on our age of cars for fitting these. Do you leave your car out of a garage or unattended for long periods?
No easy answer I am afraid but you need to consider what you want to prevent/protect.
Regards,

I have a battery cut off switch , should stop the joy riders , I keep thinking about a handbrake lock , would be easy to fabricate one up , with the position of our handbrake leaver !

Flame thrower, excellent, like it! Probably couldn't afford the fuel for that and the car though.

Back in the early '90s I had a Morris Minor and I can remember a device for sale at shows that you could mount behind a panel which immobilised the ignition. You deactivated it by swiping a magnet across it. I think I quite fancy a switch to cut supply to the fuel pump so that if someone did take it it would cut out quite quickly.

i also wonder about the deterent effect of things like steering wheel locks, pedal locks, wheel clamps etc.

My brother-in-law has a quick release steering wheel adaptor on his TR5; he takes it off and locks it in the boot which is quite effective.

Another option is just to drive a really sh*t car. I used that device very successfully when I was young!

Single biggest problem - which used to be employed by tea leaves in period - is with a pair of opera glasses looking through the back window you can read the ignition key number which is stamped into the face of the barrel. Then go and buy a key of that number, unlock the doors and drive it away at your leisure

I had a combined alarm, isolator and Central locking system fitted. Hopefully solves a number of problems in one hit.

Many moons ago, I drove a series of Ford Cosworths!! I had two stolen! I took to removing the king lead from the distributor and carrying it in my briefcase. Make sure you do not misplace that! I finally decided to change to a two litre Ford Granada estate. No one stole those.
